Quality Assurance, also known as QA, focuses on preventing mistakes. It makes sure that the systems and processes set up for a project are followed correctly.
QA is about overseeing quality.
The main aim of QA is to stop errors before they happen.
Quality Control, also called QC, focuses on finding defects. It makes sure that the systems and processes designed for a project are followed properly.
QC checks the quality of the end product.
It helps find and fix problems.
It serves as a final check to ensure the quality is good.
Fundamentally, QA (Quality Assurance) focuses on preventing defects, while QC (Quality Control) focuses on identifying faults.
Quality Assurance is about planning and setting up procedures before construction begins. QA involves documenting methods, standards, and strategies, and ensuring everyone involved understands them.
Quality Control involves observation and action. After establishing a good plan and system through QA, QC monitors the work to ensure the results meet expectations. QC checks the craftsmanship on a construction site to verify that the desired quality is achieved.
For example, when constructing a slab, QA involves having someone oversee and check the formwork and rebar, report issues, and ensure they are fixed before concreting starts. QC, on the other hand, involves an inspector visiting the site to check that the rebar diameter, spacing, number of rebars, and formwork are correct and secure, with no debris and proper cover blocks in place.
